Blackfish - Trailer

Beyond the lies, beneath the deception, the truth will surface.

Magnolia Pictures has debuted the trailer for the chilling Sundance documentary Blackfish, directed Gabriela Cowperthwaite, about orcas in captivity.

Holy shit.

OKAY, WE NEED TO REBLOG THE FUCK OUT OF THIS. EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT AN ANIMAL PERSON, YOUR FOLLOWERS NEED TO SEE THIS. ESPECIALLY DURING THE HEIGHT OF VACATION SEASON. DO NOT SUPPORT SEA PARKS WITH CAPTIVE WHALES. IT’S NOT ENVIRONMENTAL PROPAGANDA (I can’t believe I even used those words) IT’S A REAL ISSUE AND IT’S NOT A MATTER OF PROOF, IT’S A MATTER OF COVERING IT UP AND IGNORING IT!

What gets me about this topic is that orca’s are literally just killers. They don’t have anything to be scared of in the wild. They belong in all parts of the sea. They belong in pods that have been known to kill whales for fun. Whales are the biggest mammal on the planet(that we know). How could they take a creature with no natural predators, and shove it in a tank, train it, care for it, and essentially make humans their predator(after having been hunted for their meat/blubber from humans)? They may not be a “threat to humans”, but it’s totally understandable that after being treated the way they are in captivity that one or another would lash out at the being who has taught them anything against their nature.
Not to mention that after this event took place(the trainer being attacked and killed), Sea World continued to employ trainers and put them in serious danger. The SAME WHALE that killed this trainer, has also killed two other people.
God damn it, people, stop putting things up for show that don’t belong up for show. If you want to watch an orca do shit, watch a nature documentary. Learn about their natural habitat instead of paying tonnes of money to see a seriously interesting animal do some party tricks.
